What happened in Mumbai is terrible. It is really heartening to see the overwhelming responses from the citizens of the country. Terror should not be tollerated at any cost whether it is from outside our cuntry or from within. We have to get to the root of things and address the issues decisively. We need to look at strengthening our systems , border protection and our security forces.While we do all this , I would also like to askWhat are the citizens of the country going to be doing about the butchers who killed hundreds of Christians in Orissa? What are the citizens of the country going to do with the cowards who massacred hundreds of Muslims in Gujarat? Shouldnt we call for action? Shouldnt we bring the people behind this dastardly acts also to book?Terror inflicted on the elite or for that matter unleashed on tribals and the poor in my book is the same. Terror sponsored by a foreign organisation or sponsored by an Indian outfit is again the same.What are the citizens of India going to do about this?Are we going to allow political parties to take up issues that pit people against people to fight elections? Are we going to tollerate hate merchants like Tugadia and Raj Thackaray?Oh citizens of the country, can we come together and fight hate, corruption and unnecessary violence?Can we start afresh today and work towards an India where our children can live in confidence and without fear? Can we stop thinking just about ourselves and start thinking about our Nation? Without our Nation, we are no where. We need to preserve our Nation.

I cannot agree with you more. In fact, that is the reason I have been calling all the "freedom fighters" who used violence as "terrorist" I know that I may be inviting trouble but once you support one act of violence you cannot oppose another. Violence or murder in any form is just not acceptable.
Well sir, your post is thought-provoking. I am sorry to say that in Christians there isn’t the unity which is required and hence they acutely suffer. Has the aftermath of the Orisa pogrom produced a united call from all the sects to curb this in future? If they did, it was so weak that I couldn’t hear it.
Furthermore, they don’t have a good network which can spread the information of the discrimination within the community. It is high time they got abreast with the latest technology to do this work. Holding meetings as to how to tackle this discrimination is important as anything. I haven’t read even a single instance of any such meet. It is unfortunate. Why don’t the common Christians lobby their religious leaders? What are these leaders doing? Waiting for more rapes? Waiting for more humble homes to be destroyed?
Concrete steps and being assertive will work. Regrettably, in these two spheres they are well behind from everyone. An enthusiasm is needed; flair to end this tyranny is needed. A defiant step has to be taken. Otherwise Christians must prepare themselves to undergo even bloodier assaults. God and love God and love and no action is a policy I don’t understand. Chuck it out immediately and spurt into action.
I am sorry if I wrote anything wrong. My intention wasn’t to hurt anyone. Since my infancy I am deeply attached to Christians. I have many Christian friends and I have been to churches a lot. I know the Christian spirit and can share and feel their pain. Due to this affinity and love with them I feel more frustrated.
As a Muslim, I am very much appalled by the Mumbai attacks. I condemn those terrorists with more hatred than I can express. That even the educated Hindus have started miscuing the common Indian Muslims harsh and inhuman is anything but depressing.
But let it be known to everyone that even we are vulnerable to these terror attacks. Haven't we seen the Muslim casualties in the attacks? The media should bring that in the limelight.
Our trauma is even acuter because we are being assailed by poignant jeers and doubts, and often despite our condemnation of these ostensible jehadis, we don't get the warmth and friendliness from our Hindu brothers which we used to. I nostalgically look to those old days. But alas, keeping in mind the rampant terror strikes and failure of our governments to curb them, recreating that atmosphere has become a poor dream.
As an Indian, I will urge our Hindu brothers to not make us alien in our beloved homeland. Our power is in our unity; segregating a community will yield thorny results.
Remember, many Muslims sacrificed their lives for the nation. In our veins the same Indian blood is flowing; the same Muslim hearts are throbbing in our chests; and we passionately love our India!

While condemning the cowardly act of the terrorist, I salute the brave-hearts of Mumbai- the security personnel, staff of both hotels as well as the common mumbaikar!
Shame on the politicians who are once again busy blamaing each other to score brownie points and showing that they care for us more than the other. Some of them have already started their age-old 'hate campaign' but now is the time that we all show them that- "we are fed up with all this and that we are not going to tolerate any non-sense". Let us change the political atmosphere in the country by coming to gether....we have always said- "Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isaai- Aapas me hai bhai-bhai" but now is the time to prove it and say-
Hindu Muslim Sikh Isaai
Band karo yeh aapsi Ladaai
Mat suno in netao ki duhaai
Abhi to bano sach me Bhai-Bhai!!

We all agree that what happened in Mumbai .. and before that in Gujrat, Malegaon, Delhi , Varanasi , Bangalore, Guwahati... is the most ghastly and inhuman act of terror ...it has been happening with amazing frequency and regularity ...numbing us for those couple of days .. getting us to light candles, take out peaceful processions, setup debates with notable citizens etcetc ...the whole sequence of events is almost predictable ... and that is what scares me .. will all the humdrum die down after a few days ... and we start talking about the next big issue ... I think the time for discussion is well past us ... I think concrete action is what is required ... what power do we have as citizens ? a) Voting the current lot of powers that be out? may be ...but mire often than not its a case of having to choose between the worst and the worstest .... do we have another way out ... how about age old " non cooperation" ... Can we NOT pay taxes and demand that the govt first fix the machinery ... there are so many open items in the hands of the governments ..... let the goverment earn the taxes from us ... time for feeding a rotten system is gone ..

Not paying tax etc. sounds great only while talking. Better, see in whose rule there were less carnages and communal violence and stamp on that bloody lump of shit!

Whether Islamic terror or Hindu terror; whether from within the country or outside it is all the same and as you rightly put it George, whether on the elite or on the not so 'elite' ...it is a dastardly crime.
Politicians in India and all over the world (didn't the US encourage the Taliban against Russia?) use these divisive forces to suit their own ends. It is only from within that we can fight this. We need to fight corruption (our porous borders and coasts are vulnerable); unite and make governance accounable; the malaise is within... most every Indian citizen feels the country will not change. We need to change our 'jugadu', 'sab chalta hai' attitude. We need to stop thinking of me, myself; that the country will look after itself. We need to stop being Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isaahi; or Punjabi, Bengali, Gujju or Mallu; Jat, Yadav, OBC, Kayasth or Brahmin; rich or poor ...we need to BE INDIAN to stop these divisive forces.
